There are 3 ways to gather personalized information in class: 1. Clever student interest inventories and questions throughout the year; 2. Various PQA techniques, gradually getting to know each student; 3. Standing at the door, attending sporting events, spying on their social media accounts. Once you have collected it, though, what do you do with it? There are two ways to apply personalization: 1. Write it in advance, incorporating personalized information and then ask it in class. 2. Ask the story in class, spin it "on your feet" and write the "Home Run" afterward. Personalize personalization to your own natural abilities and talents. Combine whichever strategies work for you and leave with new, applicable skills.
