Build Conversational Skills with TPRS and Movie Making (Double Session)
Moviemaking is Storytelling with Dialog. But making a movie can seem long and complicated. It is not. This interactive workshop will demonstrate how you can: • Co–develop a dialog-driven script with your students in the Target Language with limited vocabulary. • Lead a rehearsal process with lots of engaging repetition that aids language comprehension for ALL students, whether performer, “techie” or member of the “production team”. • Film the production with a Smartphone and easily edit it for playback. Making a class movie can take a single class or a week, depending on how much time YOU want to invest. Each step builds through Comprehensible Input strategies. This is an activity that your students will always enjoy because they are the stars. Participants need to be ready to move

Grafted Writing - Getting Students Excited about Writing (and Sharing) in the Target Language (Double Session)
Learn writing techniques that allow students to personalize texts and confidently grow their writing abilities. Help students “graft” their own creative, original ideas to texts, in such a way that personalizes and gives them ownership of the story. Lead them to confidently and freely write better in the target language. (Note: the "More than Timed Writings" session tomorrow (Friday) at 10:30am is very simliar. The information is the same, but it will exclude some of the more interactive elements in this "Grafted Writing" presentation.)

Principles of Creating Reading Materials (Double Session)
This session is a supplement for the teachers in Chinese track to cover the reading materials. It can apply to the languages that lack reading materials in general, particularly for the beginners. The authentic materials for native speaking children are too difficult for foreign language learners. The principles of adapting an existing story or write one are the same. I will demonstrate how to use limited materials to create interesting stories that will have enough visual repetition of the target Chinese characters; stay in bound; parallel to, but not exactly the same as the story that has been circled and retold; an entirely different story or of a different genre (nonfiction) with the same set of structures and vocabulary. We will discuss the purpose of each reading piece and a focus for scaffolding or aim a specific result. The participants will create several short writing pieces in this session and I will also share a free download Chinese language reading website created by TPRS teachers.
