Bible Devotion and Prayer Time
This is just a little something a few of us are doing while we are here.

Each morning, our time will include several brief meditations from Scripture as it relates to camaraderie and harmony in being united together around a common professional cause, what can challenge this dynamic and wisdom on how to manage it when this happens.

References cited to include Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Philippians 2:1-5, Acts 15:39-40 and others

Please come join us!

Discard the Discipline Plan! -Experienced Strand
In this workshop, I will walk teachers through the details that lead to developing community, respect, love, and discipline in the CI classroom. By establishing routines, assigning classroom jobs, going deskless, getting to know students, having weekly passwords, and sharing personal and motivational stories in English or TL, it all creates a community of love, respect, and kindness where the need for a discipline plan vanishes. Come see what takes place in my classroom and how I connect with my students!

Movie Talk Done in Novel Ways! -Experienced Strand
In this workshop, attendees will be part of a Movie Talk lesson interwoven with a TPRS story that incorporates gesture readings. The audience will also acquire some Romanian as the strategies are demonstrated. By using gestures for the Super 7 Verbs and for rejoinders (What a shame!, Really?!?, It is a problem! etc...), students show participation and engagement throughout the lesson.

TPRS Training Wheels

TPRS® on Training Wheels

In TPRS® we teach a sentence at a time. Teaching a story is nothing more than teaching a series of sentences.

We start with a sentence. (John wants a duck.) We first have to learn to circle the sentence. We then learn to teach the sentence with 5 steps:

  1. Tell the class the sentence or ask the class. (John wants a duck or Does John want a duck?)
  2. Ask the student actor, do you want a duck?
  3. The student actor responds by saying, yes, I want a duck.
  4. You verify the response to the student actor. Yes, you want a duck.
  5. You also verify the answer to the class. Class, John wants a duck.

After you have learned how to circle along with the five steps, you then need to add other characters.

John wants a duck. Susie wants two ducks. I don’t want a duck. I have a duck.

You now have three characters with one sentence. John wants a duck. Susie wants two ducks. I don’t want a duck.

Now you circle and do the five steps above at the same time with the three sentences.

Normally you have to lesson plan your sentences.

We have some power points that illustrate the story and have the sentences written so that everyone in the class can read the sentence, see the illustration and also see the characters that are dramatizing the story.

When you feel that students are getting confident in the sentence you are teaching, you then move on to the next slide. (next sentence)

The power points make lesson planning easy. All you have to do is plan the details you will use for yourself as a parallel character.
